Halfway the month we sometimes get scared to death when we check our bank account. Uh, where did all that money go? Maybe you did some crazy things in the supermarket or shopped too much online? The truth often lies in the sum of many small expenses and that you don’t always know where all your money has flown to. That’s why we find it super interesting if we can take a look at other families’ spending. Nicky spends an average of 675 euros per month on restaurants and takeaway food. Some months even more! Is that lobster and champagne every week, or just takeaway stew with French fries many times a week?
Nicky’s family includes two children of 8 and 4 years old, plus a husband. On top of that, that half wedding book is a chef! Aha, an important clue. We do have a question. If you have such a convenience in the house, then your husband would be happy to cook a four course menu for the whole family every day, wouldn’t he? Nicky: “We certainly cook a lot at home. We also make plenty of time for it, with homemade appetizers and all. I wasn’t always such a foodie myself, but my husband dragged me all the way into the love of gourmet food. Apart from the fact that we like to cook ourselves, we also visit a restaurant regularly or take something away.
Nachos and sushi
Ok got it! But if you spend almost 700 euros a month on restaurant visits and takeaways, how often is that? And then what do you eat? Nicky: “On average we go to a restaurant or we take something out every week. It’s not that we always go for the same cuisine. We vary a lot and try out as many different things as possible. If the kids can choose, they like to go to Bavet for nachos and spaghetti, for example. Or we collect sushi. If it’s just the two of us, we choose the better options. That may even be with a star sometimes. So we don’t go to a restaurant and pick up food out of convenience. It’s all about quality time together and the passion for a delicious meal”
Sky full of stars!
Ooh star business! We like. Let’s do some namedropping! Nicky: “Under normal circumstances we have dinner in a star restaurant about twice a year. So in those months the amount we spend increases a bit, because then you easily pay 500 euros at once. They don’t exist anymore, but In de Wulf was one of our favorite places to dine, stay for the night and have breakfast. We also enjoyed a visit to Hertog Jan and Chambre Séparée. We also visited Hof van Cleve. Normally we would have dinner at Willem Hiele’s in Koksijde in November, but unfortunately that will not be possible at the moment. Once we also travelled to Spain to eat at El Celler de Can Roca, with three Michelin stars one of the best restaurants in the world. Most of all, we love the combination of gastronomy with a casual atmosphere”.
Food above travel
We would be rather shocked if we found that so much money was flowing to our catering industry. What about them? Nicky: “I’m not really surprised. After all, it’s rapidly increasing if you take-away something every week or go to a restaurant with the whole family. I think a lot of families spend a lot of money on food without realizing it. For us, it’s fully worth that money. With that knowledge we’re not going to economize on it or anything like that. We would much rather spend our money on a fantastic restaurant experience than on a vacation. We don’t make a lot of travels far away, but rather go to the coast for a week.”
We prefer Cake
She does have a point, our Nicky. We also regularly do some takeaway food and like to put our legs under someone else’s table. Completely out of convenience, we admit it. Haha! But we have no idea how much money we spend on that. Do you have any idea? Cake’s banking app is very handy for that, isn’t it?
