Right now, I spend most of my working hours at my home desk in Ghent.

I share a house with my best friends in the city center, and I really love it here. I enjoy the extra free time I get when working from home. But next to that I’m always looking to connect with new people, so I’m planning to go and work at different co-working spaces in the near future.

It’s the first time that I’m working in a fully remote environment, so I’m curious where this will take me. I recently bought a campervan, so I hope that I can work from some cool spots in Europe once the borders open. 🚌

As a Business Developer I don’t have a typical work day. Thank god for that!
Sometimes I wake up early and kick off the day pretty early with some ‘deep work’. And a few days a week I workout before starting my work day. There’s nothing more energizing than getting behind your desk at 9am after a short run or swim. I’ve never had a fixed schedule in my career because in a customer facing role, I believe it’s important to be as flexible as possible towards your clients. I always make sure my schedule fits theirs. 📆

What do you do at Cake?

I’m part of the sales team. This means that Tom, Ann-Sophie and I are developing and implementing growth opportunities between Cake and new commercial partners.

With our Cake for Business offering, we help companies (retailers and brands) acquire new customers, reward loyal customers or provide them with real-time market/consumer insights based on the aggregated and anonymized transactional Cake user data. I help our commercial partners in building a winning marketing strategy.

If you would like to know more about our offering for commercial partners it’s definitely worth while checking out this blogpost.

Why Cake and not another company?

I’ve always been passionate about marketing. And these days marketing is all about data.

The way Cake is using data to help commercial partners in finding the right insights to improve their marketing campaigns and get more customers is something I’m really excited about!

The last few years everyone has been talking about social media, which are of course very exciting platforms to target potential customers. For the next decade, I think we’ll see a marketing budget shift from social ads towards rewarding customers. At Cake we always say: if data is the new gold then it’s only fair to make sure that everybody gets their fair share of the cake. And that’s exactly what we do with the Cake Rewards.💰

Therefore the thing I love most about my job at Cake is that I’m not only helping marketers but also my friends (and all other Cake users) in cashback Rewards when they shop at the brands and retailers they love most. It’s Cake’s mission to improve the financial wellbeing of our users, and I hope I can play an important role in achieving that.

What is your first impression after your first days at Cake?

In my first days I challenged myself to have a short Zoom meeting with every team member. I managed to meet everyone, and I’m happy to see everyone is extremely dedicated to making Cake a success.

The people I’m working with are extremely important to me. Even though we can’t meet face to face yet, I really got inspired when I noticed that my co-workers are really A-team players. They’re all top-notch in their field of expertise! I’ve never underestimated the power of a great team.

Fingers crossed I can meet everyone in person over the summer! 😎
One thing that is really exciting for me as a person, is that I get a lot of freedom in my job. This makes me even motivated to contribute to the success of the company and take ownership on the projects I’m working on. I often hear other people complain about their jobs because they are being micromanaged and have to fill in time tracking sheets and make reports or presentations that are never used by their managers. But you won’t see me complaining any time soon!

What’s your favorite cake?

I don’t eat that much cake, but when I do, it’s most likely a piece of rice cake after a long bike ride with my friends on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Any topping on the Cake?

Next to my job at Cake I also love to support smaller startups in their sales and marketing efforts. I truly believe that working in different environments benefits me to become better at my job. It also helps me to broaden my scope and gives me new insights.

Fun fact: one of the companies I’m helping is Dripl, which offers a range of healthy lemonades, brought to the office in a sustainable way. Which is pretty ironic, since at Cake, we don’t have an office.😅

When I’m out of the office, you can find me in a pool, on my bike, or on a running track. I haven’t participated in a triathlon, but I’m planning to do so as soon as I get my vaccine.

💌 I love to connect with like-minded people. If there’s anything I can help with, or if you have suggestions for brand s or retailers you would like to see in the Cake app, feel free to get in touch! 👉 tim@cake.app
